In 1943, the scooter Spence was riding and a Diamond-T loaded with sweet potatoes collided in the driveway of his home in Brownsville, Tennessee.
The truck won, but only partially. It paralyzed him from the waist down, so he did'nt fare too well with the Little League program; however he did have plenty of time to hunt and fish.
Over the years, his quest became more than casual. It carried him from his home shooting grounds to Africa, and many times to the American West. -In the meantime, he earned a Master's Degree in Mathematics, taught at Lambuth University, and was the regular outdoor columnist for the Jackson Sun for 20 years.
He has contributed to many magazines and periodicals including Double Gun Journal, Gun Digest, Blackpowder Annual, and Safari Magazine. -He is the regular gun columnist for Mid-South Hunting and Fishing.
